Manali to Ladakh DAY 01 MANALI

Morning arrive Manali from Delhi and check in at hotel.

Afternoon half day city tour visiting the following attractions

  • Hadimba Devi Temple A Pagoda styled shrine in the midst of a deep cedar forest, Hadimba temple resembles the Naggar Temple. A four-story structure, with exquisite woodcarvings has a huge Shikhara that towers over the shrine. Beautiful carving of Goddess Durga embellishes the doors of the temple. A windy conduit through forests and dells of sighing Deodars sets an imposing atmosphere to this lovely temple. These wooded surroundings would definitely rejuvenate one mind.
  • Manu Temple A slippery pebbled trail leads you to the temple premise amidst lush surroundings on the bank of river Beas. This ancient temple is dedicated to sage Manu who is believed to be the creator of human race and the writer of Manusmriti. The only temple of Manu in India, legend has it that he saved the Vedas and the seven sages from a great flood. It is assumed that subsequent to the inundation, Manu meditated at this site in Manali after stepping on earth.
  • Vashisht Village : Famous for the sweeping valley views and sulphurous hot-water springs, the large settlement of Vashisht, formerly known as Bashist, is an amorphous jumble of traditional timber houses and modern concrete cubes, divided by paved courtyards and narrow muddy lanes.
  • Mall Road Mall Road is the lifeline of Manali as the whole city revolves around this attraction. It is the heart of the city where bus and taxi stands are located. The main market perhaps is the main attraction at the Mall.

Manali to Ladakh DAY 02 MANALI TO SARCHU

Morning after breakfast start our journey to Leh stopping at Sarchu for a night.

Today we cross the following passes : Rohtang Pass (3978 m), Keylong (3350 m), Baralacha Pass (4890m)

Upon arrival in Sarchu we check in at our tented campsite for overnight stay

Manali to Ladakh DAY 03 SARCHU TO LEH

Morning after breakfast we resume our journey for Leh,

Today we cross Nakeela and Lachangla Pass 16,617 ft.

After Lunch drive to Leh passing through Skyangchu Thang (Biggest and Highest Plateau on Earth on Stretch of 42 Kms), Tanglang La Pass 17,585ft , giving you the most spactacular views of the Indus Valley.

Upon arrival in leh you’ll met by our representative and check in at our Hotel.

Manali to Ladakh DAY 04 LEH SIGHTSEEING

A Monastery & local sightseeing tour of the Leh City. Which includes visit to:

  • Thiksey Monastery Noted for its resemblance to the Potala Palace in Lhasa, Tibet and is the largest gompa in central Ladakh. One of the main points of interest is the Maitreya (future Buddha) Temple with a 15 metres (49 ft) high statue of Maitreya, the largest such statue in Ladakh, covering two storeys of the building is deified in the monastery.
  • Hemis Monastery Hemis Monastery is the largest monastic institution in Ladakh. Located on the outskirts of Leh City, a scenic setup famous for the annual Hemis festival in june.
  • Shey Palace & Monastery Located on a Hillock in Shey. Used to be the summer retreat for the king, now the palace lies in ruin. The monastery is noted for its giant copper with gilded gold statue of a seated Shakyamuni Buddha.
  • Sindhu Darshan A peaceful riverbank nestled in the surreal landscape of Ladakh. Ideal spot for clicking picture postcards of a Ladakh landscape, Indus river & Autumn color on trees.
  • Stok Palace Stok museum and gompa is situated in the Indus Valley 17 km south east of the Ladakhi capital, Leh. Stok is the current residence of the former royal family of Ladakh and the museum contains the shrines, crown, ceremonial dress and jewelry of the Ladakhi king.

Manali to Ladakh DAY 05 KHARDUNG LA TOP

After breakfast drive to KhardungLa (80 kms round trip).

Khardung La is widely, but incorrectly, believed to be the world’s highest motorable pass. However it is the highest mountain pass located in the Ladakh region.

Going further ahead towards the most fertile region of ladakh, Nubra Valley.

  • Hunder Sand Dunes Between Hundar and Diskit lie several kilometres of sand dunes, and (two-humped) Bactrian camels graze in the neighbouring “forests” of sea buckthorn. A place to see all shades of nature in one frame.
  • Diskit Monastery It is the oldest and largest Buddhist monastery in the Nubra Valley. It is situated on the hill, just above the flood plains of the Shayok River. An impressive 32 metre (106 foot) statue on top of a hill below the monastery, faces down the Shyok River completes a picture post card and an unforgettable experience.

Manali to Ladakh DAY 06 BACK FROM NUBRA

On the drive back from the pass, you will be rewarded with spectacular views of the Indus Valley and the endless peaks of the Zanskar range.

On the way back, a visit to the following spots.

  • Leh Palace It is a magnificent fort on a mountain top overlooking the Leh town. Ideal spot to see panoramic views of Leh and surrounding areas combined with Zanskar and Ladakh mountain ranges
  • Castle of Namgial Tsemo This is the Castle of King Tashi Nagmial 15th Cent. A.D. Below, a red temple which houses goddess Paldan Lhamo (skrt. Sreedevi) and a white temple in which a 3 storey height of Maitreya Buddha is to be seen. Monks from nearby Sankar monastery attend to both of these chapels every morning and evenings. A spectacular sight to view the old Leh valley.

Manali to Ladakh DAY 07 LEH CITY

A local sightseeing tour of the Leh City.

  • Patthar Sahib Gurudwara A beautiful Gurudwara sahib constructed in the memory of Guru Nanak, built in 1517 to commemorate the visit to the Ladakh region of Guru Nanak Dev, the founder Guru of the Sikh faith.
  • Magnetic Hill a gravity hill alleged to have magnetic properties strong enough to pull cars uphill and force passing aircraft to increase their altitude in order to escape magnetic interference. In reality, the effect is an optical illusion. Popular spot on Leh-Srinagar highway.
  • Confluence point A confluence of Indus & Zanskar river.
  • Spituk Monastery Built in the 11th century. The monastery, about eight km from Leh, Like most monasteries in Ladakh, Spituk is also located on a hill. River Indus flows behind the monastery, beyond which are the snow-capped peaks of the Himalayas. The monastery belongs to Gelugpa sect or Yellow Hat order of Tibetan Buddhsim. From the monastery we can get spactacular views of the leh airport as well.
  • Shanti Stupa Highest point in Leh city, Magnificent view. Ideal spot for city life photography and great landscape shots

Manali to Ladakh DAY 08 CAMPING AT PANGONG TSO

Early departure (6 AM) for Pangong Tso (Lake) (approx. 300 kms round trip) via Chang-la pass (alt: 17370 ft Third Highest Pass of the world)

Pangong Tso at an altitude of 14,500 ft is 4-5 kms wide and over 135 kms long, about two-third of which lies on the other side of the Indo-China LAC (Line of Actual Control). Pangong Tso was featured in the last scenes of the 2010 movie, 3 Idiots. After the success of the movie, this beautiful natural location has attracted more tourists from all over the world.

This area has the clearest skies and an exhilarating view of the stars at night.

Manali to Ladakh DAY 09 RETURN FORM PANGONG TSO

On the drive back from the pass, you will be rewarded with spectacular views.

On the way back, a visit to the following spots.

  • Tangtse Monastery This magnificent Monastery was built into the hill and not on top of a hill like they are usually are.
  • Chemrey Gompa A Buddhist monastery bulilt in 1664 that belongs to the Drugpa monastic order. There are a number of shrines situated inside the monastery.The major attractions of the Chemrey Gompa is the one-story high image of Padmasambhava it houses. Other than that, the monastery also boasts of a precious collection of scriptures, having title pages in silver and the text in gold letters.
